Does a truck driver have any non-driving responsibilities?
Drivers must meet Driver Qualifications (DQ) requirements, such as being at least 21 years old, being able to read, write, and speak English well enough to do the job, pass a DOT physical/medical exam, have only one CDL, and be able to pass a DOT drug test.
- It is the driver’s responsibility to safely secure and transport cargo. This means a driver is responsible for properly securing the load.
- Drivers need to know how to properly locate, distribute and secure different types of cargo. A driver must inspect the vehicle load and load-securing devices within the first 50 miles of a trip.
